OCAP Workshop Series to Launch in May

Indigenous Research Framework Gathering at Musqueam

On November 26&27, 2019, IRSI hosted a collaborative workshop at the Musqueam Cultural Centre: Crafting a Framework for Indigenous Research. The gathering was a key step in the ongoing work to co-create a Framework for Indigenous, community-based research at UBC. IRSI's last Speaker of the Year: Dr. Robert Henry

On November 18, for its last Speaker Series of the year and first event off campus, IRSI invited Dr. Robert Henry to speak about Indigenous Street Gangs and the Impact of Settler Colonialism. Dr.Henry has worked alongside Indigenous street youth and gang members across the Prairie Provinces for more than a decade. His collaborative photo-voice research method allows participants to take photographs of what’s important to them, effectively telling their own stories, in their own ways. The

October 25: Merle Alexander, "Free, Prior and Informed Consent"

Next up in the IRSI Speaker Series, we present Indigenous lawyer and UN negotiator Merle Alexander, who will share his extensive knowledge on Free Prior Informed Consent (“FPIC”). Merle will discuss a number of FPIC-related topics, including the origins of the international customary law concept, consent between Indigenous Peoples and the Crown, and consent at various stages of a traditional knowledge study. This event is presented in collaboration with Allard Law School's Indigenous Legal
